"We need a mayor with experience who takes strong action and follows through on promises – who doesn’t speak in generalities, but instead offers specific steps to address our many challenges and move Anaheim forward. During my eight years on city council I focused on issues that would bring clear and tangible results to the residents of Anaheim and that is what I will do as mayor. We need to make our local economy work better for everyone; we need to address the homelessness crisis impacting our residents and neighborhoods; we need to tackle the scourge of crime and gang violence."
LORRI'S 7 SOLUTIONS FOR ANAHEIM
1. BUILD AN ECONOMY THAT BENEFITS EVERYONE
-
Make local investments in infrastructure, providing incentives for living wages, job creation, and community redevelopment.
-
Connect the working class to better training and technical education opportunities.
-
Make it easier to open a business and offer micro-loans to new startups.
-
Create new development prospects in older neighborhoods like west Anaheim by working directly with developers to incentivize retail and other ventures without displacing long-term residents.
2. SOLVE THE HOMELESSNESS CRISIS
-
Prioritize permanent supportive housing for homeless people with disabilities.
-
Put residents first, relocating the homeless into shelters or other facilities and cleaning up encampments so that we can reclaim our parks and rivers for the community.
-
Ensure services are available by bringing business and community leaders together to supply emergency beds.
-
Eradicate the root causes of homelessness by addressing issues impacting the mentally ill and drug-addicted to the formerly incarcerated and the urban poor.
-
Aggressively implement early childhood intervention programs, drug counseling and rehabilitation, and economic growth packages.
3. GET TOUGH ON GANGS, GRAFFITI AND VANDALISM
-
Increase the number of officers and patrols while diverting young people to positive alternatives, like jobs and specialized training.
-
Aggressive consequences for graffiti and vandalism and create a task force to monitor distressed neighborhoods and provide rapid response.
-
Install cameras in known high-crime areas to identify bad actors and discourage criminal behavior.
-
Work with local high schools to create a pipeline of new police recruits that better reflect the community they serve.
4. INCREASE THE SUPPLY OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING
-
Work directly with developers to incentivize affordable housing developments.
-
Streamline permitting for affordable housing projects.
-
Identify new areas of the city for development.
-
Clear a path for infill development that allows residents to live and work in the same area.
5. INCREASE MOBILITY THROUGH TRANSPORTATION INVESTMENTS
-
Implement a permit parking program in Anaheim neighborhoods where space is limited due to high traffic and workday commuters.
-
Work with innovative new platforms like rideshares to create shuttle services with reliable rides and fixed routes that encourage carpooling and reduce congestion.
-
Reinvest in public transit to reduce pollution and traffic congestion on our major roads and freeways.
6. PREPARE OUR CHILDREN TO GET AHEAD
-
Implement early childhood intervention programs that put our kids on the path to a good job, not a prison sentence, and help students suffering from early childhood trauma, poverty and neglect.
-
Reinvest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math to prepare the next generation of workers to obtain good, high-paying jobs that are right here in Anaheim.
-
Open new libraries so young people hungry for knowledge have safe, positive places they can go.
-
Open a new sports park in the city – and update our existing parks – to keep our kids healthy and active.
7. LEVERAGE INVESTMENTS IN RESORTS & TOURISM
-
Work with the resort district to create fair incentives that accelerate growth and investment in Anaheim.
-
Leverage resort investments to generate new revenues for city services that enhance quality of life for the residents of Anaheim.
